What’s Driving Consumption Trends in India?

A growing population combined with increasing household income are driving current consumption trends in India.

It was great to be back in India a decade after my first trip there. So many things have changed, yet so many things look the same. But with 1.4 billion people, India is far from homogenous. From luxury malls to roadside kiranas, there’s a wide spectrum of consumption. And the top 10% of the population make up over half of India’s GDP. And that subgroup alone has a population and an average income that’s in line with Mexico. As incomes rise, consumption will continue to broaden at all levels, and that creates a long runway for consumer growth across the product spectrum.
